It was awesome getting Kolarek back. He was in the system a looooong time ago, departing from the organization after 2015. Then he bounced around the majors for a while, before finally returning home with New York in a deadline deal in 2023. Welcome back, Adam!
But the Mets can be total idiots, and how they handled Kolarek is proof of it.
Kolarek had a 0.00 ERA in 4 innings with the club, so what do they do? Less than a month after acquiring him, they DFA him, send him to the minors, and he didn't want go back down so he elected free agency and signed with Atlanta.
That's the Mets thing to do! Keep putting guys who are awful out there—Phil Bickford, Trevor Gott, Grant Hartwig, Jeff Brigham—but get rid of the guys who are on a roll. They did it with Sam Coonrod (1.69 ERA in 7 games, now in the minors) and I'm sure Sean Reid-Foley (0.00 mark in 5 IP) has a short leash because he's doing too well.
Anyway, Kolarek could have been a cure for the Mets bullpen woes, so they ditched him. That's the Mets!
