He debuted on April 4 at Milwaukee and pitched in four more games, totaling 7 strikeouts, 3 hits, and 2 walks in 6.1 IP, good for a 0.789 WHIP. More crucially, he still has a 0.00 ERA in his Mets career.

You know what that means?

As I have posted before, the Mets front office HATES relievers with a 0.00 ERA. It always has, ever since it cut Ralph Terry in 1967. I think Mets management sees a 0.00 ERA as "uppity".

Reyes got sent down on April 19. I think that might actually set a Mets record for the earliest date in the season that a 0.00 ERA man has been demoted or released.

Supposedly, he's going to stretch out as a starter in AAA since Carrasco is injured. I hope that's true, but I'm on to the Mets' schtick by now. My prediction is he'll have an ERA under 3.00 as a starter and get traded at the deadline for a guy who can't hit.

Until he gets called back up, say goodbye to my little friend.

Oh, and by the way, you might look at his 6.14 ERA and think he sucks, but he STILL has a 0.00 ERA as a reliever. He got blown up in his only start (1 IP, 5 ER), and here's the thing. After posting a 0.00 ERA as a reliever, he was chosen to be demoted to be "stretched out" as a starter, whereupon he started ONE GAME at AAA, pitched less than four innings, and got lit up. Apparently, this was exactly what the Mets were looking for, because immediately after that poor performance, he was called up to do the exact same thing in the show. Not his fault that he was destroyed, because he wasn't ready. The Mets put him in a position to fail.

Also, he'd already shown he's not dependable as a starter at a high level, because in his only season where he started 10 games in AAA (2022 for Norfolk), he was 0-7 with a 7.17 ERA. Yes, he did have good numbers in the low minors as a starter, but in AAA and the majors, he's only been effective as a reliever.

So of course Billy Eppler chose my little friend, the guy with a 0.00 ERA as a reliever, to be stretched out (more like trampled upon) in AAA.

Now his ERA at Syracuse is 5.91 after three starts and 10.2 IP. Not too promising, so an Ultimate Mets Database popularity ranking of 1198 might be as good as it gets for Denyi.

And by the way, I must say- Adam, I think your story about Ed Kranepool is awesome.
