I like Jankowski. He's another player in the Lenny Dysktra mold; my only problem is that he should be wearing #4, not #16. That's Dwight Gooden's number and always will be, and it's odd to see an outfielder wearing it. Only stud starting pitchers should be assigned #16. I just checked and no one on the 2022 Mets has #4. C'mon Travis, get with the program! LENNY! LENNY! LENNY! Sorry I got carried away.
As long as he keeps hustling and bunting for base hits and stealing bases, Travis looks to be a great pickup for the Mets. He adds an element that is greater than his stats on paper. So far in the Mets' 10-4 start, he's been a key "x factor" type player, a catalyst.
By the way, it was funny to hear Wayne Randazzo describe Jankowski's look as "Jerry Blevins with Syndergaard hair."

Not sure what my initial reaction to the Mets acquisition of Jankowski was, but it was likely along the lines of "ugh." What do you really expect to get from a guy with no power, no on-base ability and no ability to hit for average?
This is the Mets, so none of that gobbledygook matters, they just threw him out there for 40+ games in 2022 anyway, production, skill and output be damned.
Then he sort of faded away and I didn't ask any questions.
Apparently the Mets lost him to the Mariners in early August, then re-acquired him in mid-August. Either I missed that, or totally forgot about it.
Well, wouldn't you know it, this guy who hit .167 with the Mets is—upon his escape from New York—batting .292 with a .388 OBP in 192 at-bats for Texas in 2023, as of this writing.
If the Mets are anything, they seem to be springboards for future excellence elsewhere, don't they?
