Known as a Mets killer because in 2011, he batted .512 with a 1.303 OPS in 41 AB against Mets pitchers. In his career against the Mets, Ramos batted .302 with a .821 OPS, 12 homers and 63 RBI.

In the offseason after 2018, Boy Wonder Brodie signed him to a two year contract after they whiffed on trying to sign J.T. Realmuto. I was listening to WFAN a lot back then, and as far as I remember, no one rejoiced or even called the Ramos signing a good move.

Fast forward to a hot July night in 2019, and I'm reclining at the pool after midnight, listening to overnight WFAN host Tony Paige (one of my favorite hosts, now retired) talking about how Noah doesn't want to pitch to Ramos anymore, and how Mickey Callaway and Mets management are holding firm and insisting that the Buffalo catch Thor.

The thing that stood out (and sealed this moment as a memory for life) is that Tony said, "It's like Jim Maloney saying he doesn't want Johnny Bench as a catcher. What are you going to do? Play Pat Corrales?"

At that moment, I wanted to scream at my phone, "WILSON RAMOS IS NOT JOHNNY BENCH!"

Looking at the Buffalo's 2019 fielding numbers, he had an excellent fielding percentage of .994 but he only caught 15% of would-be base-stealers and was a liability regarding defensive runs saved (-11).

Overall, his stay on the Mets was marked by lack of confidence in his receiving.
