I mean, after the Mets acquired the extremely disappointing, 34-year-old second baseman, Roberto Alomar, from the Cleveland Indians, they later acquire the PED-suspended, 36-year-old second baseman, Robinson Cano, from the Seattle Mariners. Did Fred and Jeff really think that trading for Cano was a good idea? I realize that the relatively inexperienced younger Met COO was somewhat prone to make hasty personnel decisions, but after nearly 40 years as a Met team owner, shouldn’t Fred Wilpon have recognized what a stinker the proposed Robinson Cano trade was?

And, even Carlos Baerga, the late twenties-something Cleveland Indian second baseman, was a big disappointment for the Mets. So, I guess the moral is never acquire an aging second baseman, especially one who has already received an 80-game-suspension for PED use (and will now be suspended for an entire season after PED suspension number two).

I guess that former player agent/Met general manager Brodie Van Wagenen never considered George Santayana’s idea either. Let’s hope that both new Met team owner Steve Cohen and Met team President Sandy Alderson have read and considered Mr. Santayana’s profound words.

Actually, his entire Mets career looks like a single decent season: in 602 at-bats, he hit .269 with 24 home runs, 72 RBI, 72 runs scored and 37 doubles. Too bad that was spread over four campaigns.

I can't say he was a bust, because to be a bust usually great things are expected of a guy ... and I honestly didn't expect great things from Cano from the get-go.
