October 16, 2002 McClure pitched well down the stretch for the Mets out of the pen in 88. Had a couple more good years with the Cardinals after that. Wouldn't have hurt to have held on to him.
December 25, 2002 This is one of those lefty's who kept hanging on, but for a slightly different reason.... he could actually get guys out.
February 29, 2008 I didn't know until today that McClure was at one point a Met. I remember him being a perennial every- fifth-day pitcher for the Brewers, where he won a pennant among other things.
April 30, 2008 Looking back I think it's interesting just how little McClure was used as a Met. He wasn't a scrub, he had success before and after being a Met, but he barely ever pitched during his months with the team.
Was he constantly hurt or was it just that the game was different then? Back then I guess Davey could use his starters for 7 or 8 innings and then go right to McDowell or Myers. Today as a left handed reliever who was effective, McClure would be making 75-80 appearances a year for a team like the Mets.
