Hats off to Glen for his memory on Lorne Brown! I do remember Lorne but not in nearly as much detail. All I remember about him was that he sucked and was boring and me and my friends thought he was liquored up half the time. He was a bad announcer during a real bad time in Mets history. He was no Steve LaMar!

When the Mets were in the midst of their 15-game losing streak in 1982, I remember there was a game against the Reds where they blew the game in the late innings. I think they needed one more out and Mike Scott was on the mound. Someone hit a comebacker to him and Scott flat-out botched it. Lorn Brown said disgustingly, "C'mon, Mike..."

That, for me, was the highlight of an otherwise dull broadcasting season.

The WORST announcer in the history of organized sports. Granted he did not have much to work with but he could make a dual perfect game sound like grass growing. He is the only announcer who I routinely turned off in my life. I swear he could make a date with Brittney Spears sound like a dull event----what a dullard.

Lorn Brown once told Mets fans that he changed the spelling of his first name. It was originally spelled Lorne, but he said "I removed the E because I didn't want to be confused with Lorne Green."

The thing I rememeber about Lorn Brown was opening day in the early eighties. He was the master of ceremonies. Ed Koch was the Mayor of New York. Brown introduced Koch thusly "and now the Mayor of New York the Honorable Ed Coke."

In reading the comments on Lorn Brown it appears that most thought he was a poor announcer. In the early 80's he spent time doing games for the Chicago White Sox and then the Milwaukee Brewers. I found him to be one of the best announcers in major league baseball.

He was run out of Milwaukee since he could not get along with Bob Uecker, the long time voice of the Milwaukee Brewers.

I found him to stink as a Mets announcer. Example ball be hit to left field for a base hit...he say ground ball to right field for a base hit and camera go to right field show outfielder just standing there.

I don't remember Lorn Brown cause I guess I wasn't born during that time. I remember him now cause he's my grandpa and he's a great man.

Without a doubt the worst announcer the Mets ever had. I remember during the pre-show that sometimes he would keep talking as Ralph was trying to read the lineups for the game. On at least one occasion Ralph yelled at him to stop talking.

Lorn was terrible. I remember every time a batter had two strikes, Lorn would say, "He is in the hole." He goes down as possibly the worst broadcaster in Mets history.

I remember Lorn Brown from his days in Des Moines, Iowa broadcasting Drake University basketball and football games. He may also have done some work for the AAA baseball team based in Iowa's capital city in the mid 1970s. Lorn always did his homework and that was evident in his later broadcast work for the Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets. It's too bad he's received such a bad rap especially after his passing. Lorn was a kind and caring individual.

Lorn disliked NY more than you disliked him. A lot more.
