Ed Cipot was a great baseball player! He was a good actor and now he is a great priest!

Team.ate in 1977 with Jackson Mets. Interesting hearing he is now a priest. He did have a part in the movie "The Natural" as Gabby. Good ballplayer and nice guy. New vocation not hard to believe; he was always very spiritual.

I remember in the late 70's some company came out with Minor League cards and I got a whole bunch of Tidewater Tides including Ed Cipot. Minor league cards back then were a real rarity and my friend (and fellow Mets fan) and I really treasured them. There was no writing on the front of these cards--just a picture of the player with stats on the back. Cipot's card showed an upward view of him in his batting stance if I remember correctly. Upon obtaining his card I immediately took a liking to him and was really rooting for him to make the Majors. Unfortunately he never did.

Cy.....I heard you're a priest now. Hmmmmm. Do you tell all those troubled youths about your hot temper, the helmets that were broken on dugout steps, the bats thrown in disgust? Just messin with ya Cy. You and Bodie were my first spring training roomies. Edgewater Beach in St Pete. Man, where have the years gone? You were an outstanding ballplayer Ed, as intense as they come

I can verify that Ed Cipot is now Father Ed Cipot. He married my wife and I (did I say that right?) in February. He is at Holy Child parish in Staten Island, NY.

I guess if was 1979 or maybe 80, I met Eddie at the White Heron where I was working as a cocktail waitress. we dated briefly and he stayed at my house on 24th street in Virginia Beach, Va. He was a great guy, albeit a little "hyper". Lol I wish him nothing but the best.

Got a chance to play with Ed Cipot (left handed outfielder like him but not as good) as we practiced in February 1977 on a St Pete high school field right before spring training. Pete Gabrien was supposed to give me a look but called me into his office and told me who knew my real age so I wasn't around camp very long. Great memories though playing with Ed and befriended Bill Daley who pitched briefly for Little Falls. I always wondered what happened to these guys and am happy to see Ed making a positive impact.

I met Father Ed today, 9/2/2018. I attended mass at the Church of the Holy Child. He gave a good Homily (Sermon). He is very popular. He had a long line of parishioners waiting to shake his hand and talk to him after church. I showed him my 1978 Tidewater Tides program. I had scored the game. Mike Scott pitched. Father Ed asked if he at least got a hit in the game. I told him he went 1-4. He did admit there were not too many hits that year.

I asked him how he was able to attend church all those years ago while he was still playing. Minor league players spend many hours at the park working out, taking infield and outfield, and batting practice. Father Ed told me it was something ingrained into him from his childhood. Wherever he was playing he found a church and attended mass. He also said that was the disco era and he and his teammates were often out dancing until 4 am which makes it even more amazing that he was able to make it to church.

Grew up with Ed in Highland Park NJ. I was a pretty damned good pitcher but Ed and John Jaskowski who was drafted by the Phillies were the only guys I just could never send back to the bench. I guess we now know why. Two great hitters in a small town long ago but it seems like yesterday.

Ed was an excellent high school linebacker, smart, quick and strong. After a 1973 game against Ed’s Highland Park H.S. on the bus home to South Brunswick NJ I wondered why I failed to get a single solid block on him from my right guard position after dominating larger defenders in 6 previous games. The realization hit hard, Ed Cipot was a better athlete and footballer, I realized my upper limit as a football player at age 17 and was not happy about it. No surprise Ed attained success in a varied, multifaceted career.
