HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

After watching the press conference announcing him as interim manager, Jerry seems to be an intelligent individual. I think this team needs someone with his kind of calming presence to right the ship, after months of distractions. I hope he does well as manger of this team and makes a strong run at the playoffs.

Well here we go.

Will this work? I don't know. Jerry Manuel won manager of the year for a reason, but he also got fired for a reason. I'm more of a fan of the quiet and wise managers like Manuel than the screaming type, but we shall have to see if he can inspire this team and turn this ship around.

Sorry to see Willie go, but I wish Jerry the best of luck and hopefully he is just what we need right now.

Of course if he's not I imagine the Mets might be placing a call to Japan soon and reacquainting themselves with Mr. Valentine.

I didn’t want Willie to go in the middle of the season so I am not a big Manuel fan. Jerry is loose, he argues with the umps, he’s funny and he even lets the players grow facial hair. He constantly tells us what the Mets are going to do and even reminds us that the Mets are a second class team in NYC. But “Hey Jerry, what’s the story!” Time is running out. I am tired of hearing that we are only 3 games back, last year we were 7 games ahead!

Although he's a little flakey, I'm going to reserve judgement on his managing until his tenure is over.

I don't recall him being this offbeat when he managed the White Sox.

Jerry Manuel has no clue on how to effectively run a ball club. He speaks in riddles to the press and his on-field decisions are questionable.

Ned Yost, anyone?
