Nice! I get the first memory of Juan Lagares! I remember his first game as a Met which was yesterday. He got a single in two at bats. I hope this post is followed by thousands more in the next fifty years as Met fans celebrate Juan Lagares, the centerfielder on several World Series champions. Lets Go Mets and good luck Juan!

One of the greatest defensive center fielders I have ever seen. He makes the hard plays look so easy.

Won his first Gold Glove a couple weeks ago. Trust me this won't be his last Gold Glove, that is for sure.

The Cult of Lagares loved this guy.
I mean, I guess he was okay. He probably should have been ditched long before he was able to log eight seasons with the Mets, because his bat was too inconsistent (I balk at saying "weak" because he did have some fair seasons) and his defense, though excellent (especially his first two years), just didn't legitimize keeping him around so long.
He won a Gold Glove, he tore it up in the 2015 postseason, he could steal a bag.
He was an effective tool who was able to last so long because his first two years, in the field especially, were THAT good.
One season that really stands out to me is his 2018 campaign. In limited duty (59 at-bats), he hit .339, the highest mark on the team among those with 10-plus ABs. That out-of-the-blue average reminds me of Rey Ordonez's 2003. Ordonez was anemic with the bat in New York, but in his first year away, he hit .316 in 117 ABs with Tampa Bay.
