HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

Alex
April 29, 2022
"Like Lenny Dykstra, he's a center fielder who wears #4 and bats leadoff. Like Cleon Jones, he's that rare breed of player who bats righthanded and throws lefthanded."

And like about 1,000 other Mets, he's a guy who did nothing meaningful with the team. I've written a bunch of comments on this site and recently a common thread among a lot of the players is they were with the team in 2013. What an odd, mediocre, underwhelming though intriguing crew that team was. Cowgill was part of the intrigue.

He was a 27-year-old nobody who somehow made the club as the Opening Day center fielder (?). He goes 2-for-5 with a grand slam that first game, then hits .161 with just another home run the rest of the way.

I remember him being in that Opening Day lineup. It wasn't quite "Collin who?" because technically I had heard of him, but it was more like, "is that the best they can do?" With guys like him starting to begin the year, you kind of just knew 2013 was going to be a rough one.

What's worse about Cowgill is he cost us Jefry Marte, a prospect with good power who showed decent slugging potential in the majors (15 HR in 258 ABs with the Angels in 2016) and all we got for him when we parted ways was Kyle Johnson, who could never figure out Triple-A pitching and who never saw a game in the majors.

Marte is still cranking in Japan. Johnson hasn't played professionally since 2016. Cowgill gave us 61 at-bats and a .180 average.

Cowgill didn't give us much ... but at least he gave us something to write about.
