What a great first career start! With Wheeler sure to come to NY by next year the Mets have the makings of an awesome pitching staff. Harvey may be ranked 935/935 out of popularity right now but that's sure to change very, very soon. Two great match-ups coming up. Keep it going, Matt.

This guy is a stud. His first game was awesome-11Ks to break Seaver's record. As he matures as a big league pitcher, I have a feeling that eventually every game he starts will have a chance to be historic. He's also batting .455 as of August 22.

In the late 60's we had Seaver, Koosman etc; the mid 80's were all about Doctor K, Darling and El Sid. Now in 2013 it's Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler who are gonna lead us out of the darkness of the past 6 seasons!!! If everything breaks right, he could be the next CY YOUNG AWARD winner for the Mets. Plus he's built to be a pitcher unlike that pill-popping redneck Pettite or C.C. who makes King Kong Bundy look anorexic. Hope to see him Matt pitch at Citi Field this season.

Harvey's been terrific but before we anoint him the next Seaver:
1) Let's hope he remains healthy - always a concern with the Mets crack medical staff, which is second only to Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine and Dr. Howard in quality.
2) Let's hope he won't wilt under the pressure of 32 starts.
3) If the Mets get into a playoff race, let's hope he won't melt under that pressure.
4) Let's hope other teams never figure him out, like Gooden in '84 and '85.

Man, I hate jumping the gun on comparisons, but watching Harvey handle the Phillies last night reminded me of vintage Seaver. The kid is mature beyond his years, has brilliant command of his pitches and is as tough as nails. Liking what I'm seeing so far.

I was at the game last night. Strasburg vs Harvey. After Strasburg gave up home runs to Ike and Duda. The crowd started chanting "HARVEY'S BETTER" I Loved it. The crowd was electric. Reminded me of a Dwight Gooden start in the early 80's. This kid has big things in store for him in the future.

I wasn't exactly thrilled when I found out that Matt rooted for the evil Stankees when he was growing up but all human beings have flaws. It reminded me back in the 80's when Paulina Porizkova was the hottest swimsuit model but my happiness went south when I found out that she smoked cancer sticks!

Eerie to see Sha Lee's comments of August 24. Hope he recovers but knowing Mets, he will never be dominant again. He was going to change the losing culture that is down the drain. Will that ever happen?

Thanks for bringing Met fans some real joy during the 2013 season. Here's praying you can completely recover from surgery and pitch us to glory starting in 2015. You will be missed in 2014, that's for sure.

The Mets were coming to Pittsburgh just before the All Star break, and I bought tickets for Saturday night. Harvey was scheduled to pitch, and I couldn't wait to see him in person. Of course, the Mets scratched his start in order for him to pitch in the All Star Game. I ran into a woman wearing a Harvey jersey and told her it was too bad we didn't get to see him. She said, "Only the Mets are dumb enough to bump a guy from a game that matters in order to pitch him in a game that doesn't." Couldn't agree with her more.

Everyone knows his story. He's been awful since 2016, a has been, and a druggie. Yet, he keeps trying to regain his form, despite hitting bottom. His performance in the World Baseball Classic shows maybe he has done that. He's had trouble with his knee for awhile, and had surgery last year. Right now, he looks trim, and healthy. If he's off the Coke, and the Oxy, he's worth a look. It would be an amazing journey if he can come back, and be effective. You Gotta Give Him Credit For Staying With It, Despite Years of Getting Knocked Around.

Considering the extreme, over-the-top hype surrounding Harvey, you just knew a crushing downfall was imminent.
"Dark Knight of Gotham," "Real Deal" ... give me a break. He came up and had a VERY GOOD initial showing in 2012. Then he had an excellent sophomore campaign. And from there, he was basically a future Hall of Famer? That's how people were acting.
Baseball America ranked him among the top-100 prospects just once, and he was only #54. Lastings Milledge was once #9, Alex Escobar was once #11 and Fernando Martinez was once #20, for crying out loud.
Don't get me wrong, I was stunned at just how much he collapsed. His was a demise that would make Tim Lincecum blush.
Fans of the era were desperate for success and pinned all their hopes on a guy who inevitably was not going to be able to deliver.
And he didn't.

Completely agree with Alex's post. Hard to believe that Harvey is already nearly forgotten, considering the overdrive of the hype machine when he had his moment in the sun.
It was the dream rotation that would never be: Harvey, Syndergaard, Wheeler, deGrom and that guy who looked a little like Joe DiMaggio.
Incidentally, I vividly remember that Jacob deGrom received ZERO hype when he came to the big leagues. He was just suddenly there, plenty of hair but no cover stories. Now even he's gone, brought down by injuries, but his career easily outshone Harvey's.
