In his first start as a Met on May 17, 2007, Jason Vargas pitched like a champ for six innings and like a chump for one, giving up a pair of two-run homers. He got out of the first two innings with less than ten pitches per inning. He retired the first ten batters allowing only two hits and a run though the first five innings. A pair of singles each proceeded a home run in the sixth, then he settled down and retired the Cubs 1-2-3 in the seventh, leaving down 5 to 1. He shaved his head to fit in with the rest of the team just before the game.

We can't continue to carry him the way he is going. We need someone who will give you a chance to win more consistently. We can't afford to be blown out every fifth day.
