Well, he was the Mets' most reliable bullpen option early in the 2005 season. My playing career ended shortly after T-Ball.

Manny became the Mets newest version of The Arsonist! He really did # 36 no honor in his short stint as a Met!

The Mets could have been a playoff team in 2005, but instead of making the trades and signing the guys that would have put them in that position, they were getting guys like Aybar.
Prior to his stint with the Mets, he had a 5.05 career ERA. On the bright side, he averaged more than a strikeout with the Mets and, despite an ERA over 6, he didn't lose a game.
Also, it wouldn't surprise me if he was one of those guys who was a few years older than he claimed. He looks a couple years older than the 33 he supposedly was in his Mets pictures.

The Mets gave him 22 relief appearances despite a 6.04 ERA in 2005. Crazy. He was actually awesome at Triple-A that year, posting a 1.41 ERA in 24 games, but obviously it didn't translate to big league success.
I sent him an autograph request through his home address in 2020; unfortunately, he never responded.
