This kid is tough and has pretty good stuff. But he needs to learn how to put batters away. Way too many 1-2 counts became 3-2 very quickly.

Dicky has his moments, but he isn't good enough to be starting in the majors at this time. I have to cut the kid slack because of the situation he was put in. It's hard being a rookie starter let alone take the place of Al Leiter. Valentine doesn't seem to be giving up on the kid which is a good thing. He just like I are hoping he can improve quickly so we can get TRASHsel out of the rotation.

He had a gutsy performance for a rookie in 2001. He was the opening day starter for Norfolk Tides in 2002, struck out the first four batters to face him and seven over five innings, giving up two runs and was traded to the Expos the next day. I hope he makes it in the bigs!

This guy has been pitching with the Devil Rays this year. He's got good stuff. Been in a few games so far.

My 11-year-old brain thought he was going to be really good. What did I base that on? Not sure. Perhaps it was because he had a really good stretch in 2001 (where, further research shows, he posted a 1.08 mark in 16 2/3 innings over 7 games). To a kid, that sort of lights-out performance suggests the makings of a legend, small sample size be darned. I also think it's because I thought he had a cool—or unique/memorable, at least—name, so he took up more mindshare than he should have.
For what it's worth, he was very solid in the minors prior to his promotion. He later forged a long career in Japan, spending nine seasons there.
