Saw Terrence in action at Comiskey Park against the Chisox (17 August 2001). He ripped a ground-rule double that landed one section over to my left (I was sitting in the bleachers). Wish he was ripping them like that at Shea on a regular basis.

I know of Long more as an Athletic, despite him being a first round pick by the Mets in the '90s. I remember his excellent rookie season with Oakland in 2000 and the run of success he had with the A's after that.
Another what-could-have-been case for the Mets! From 2000 to 2003, he averaged 150 games, 572 ABs, 82 runs, 15 homers, 152 hits, 31 doubles and 73 RBI per year...but, of course, he wasn't in a Mets uniform.
And all New York received in return for him was Kenny Rogers, who, despite being solid down the regular season stretch, totally collapsed in the 1999 postseason.
It might not be an all-time bad Mets trade, but it might earn an honorable mention somewhere.
On the bright side, he signed an autograph for me through the mail care of the Royals in 2005. I've since written to him twice through his home address, both times in 2020, but he hasn't responded to those.
