I went to this doubleheader.I stayed for both games. Leiter was leaving his stuff fat and over the plate and the Mariners like started to take batting practice. The Mets have no luck with doubleheaders.

I was living in Oregon, a Mariner hotbed, and hadn't gotten to see many Mets games. But with them playing the M's I knew I had three glorious baseball afternoons ahead of me. I cleared my schedule, called my friends over, and proceeded to explain how the Mets would paste their dinky AL team. After the first I didn't say another word for 2 hours.

Flew in for this game from London. Well, actually, flew in for the game that got rained out and was due to fly home around the time of the first pitch. Got to JFK, found the flight had been overbooked as usual, got bumped - along with $500 compensation, hopped in a taxi, got back to the hotel downtown and took the river ferry up to Shea. My first live in-person baseball game. Don't remember a great deal as both games were easy wins but did get to see my heroes in person from out in left field which was cool. Mets fans friendly and slightly perplexed that some random limey guy had flown to NY for the weekend to watch baseball. This was in the days when tickets were cheap. Still the only live game I've seen, and it was great to see it at Shea which was an iconic stadium in the UK mainly thanks to the Beatles

Please note:
We're looking for your comments about this specific game. We've had people use this space to share their thoughts on how the current season is going, or on ways that the Mets can improve the team. Such comments, unless in the context of this particular game, will be considered off-topic and will be removed.

Example One
The Mets suck! They need to trade Smith and get somebody like Jones.
This comment is off-topic and will be removed. It has nothing to do with any specific game. But here's an acceptable alternative:

Example Two
The Mets suck! Smith made three errors in this game, and hit into a double play, and the Mets blew a 5-0 lead. They need to get rid of Smith and get somebody like Jones.
See the difference? Here you're getting the same point across, but it's in the proper context. We wouldn't consider this message to be off-topic, and we would let it remain.

We do appreciate anybody who takes the time to share their thoughts on our site, and we hate to remove anybody's postings. But if we didn't take steps to ensure that only on-topic messages were retained, The Ultimate Mets Database would become a confusing jumble of unrelated comments, and would thus be less enjoyable to visitors like you.

Thank you!
