Just finished listening to this game. First night game ever at Shea. The key play in the game was typical of the early Mets.

4th inning with the Reds leading 4-2, starter Bill Wakefield gets knocked out of the box. Casey brings in Ron Locke, who has only been in a handful of games up til then. Tommy Harper is on first base and Locke walks Vada Pinson on 4 pitches. So with Harper & Pinson, two of the fastest players in the league are on base. Then, as Bob Murphy points out on the broadcast, Locke forgets that he has two guys on base and instead of pitching from the stretch, he goes full wind up and Harper practically walks to third base. Pinson is so surprised he doesn't take advantage.

That's enough for Casey. He takes Locke out without letting him throw another pitch, LOL. He brings in Larry Bearnarth and his first throw is a wild pitch and Harper scores, Pinson goes to second base. Makes it 5-2. Then Deron Johnson, the batter up at the time, hits a double, Pinson scores and it's 6-2. Then Frank Robinson singles, scoring Johnson, 7-2. Robinson steals second base. Johnny Edwards moves him to 3rd on a ground out, and he scores on a Leo Cardenas single, 8-2. When Bearnarth finally got the side out, the Shea Faithful gave a loud, sarcastic round of applause.

So night time baseball at Shea got to see right away the same type of baseball the Mets were playing in the Polo Grounds the two years before. And Casey was probably thinking to himself, "it never was like this with the Yankees."

Such comments, unless in the context of this particular game, will be considered off-topic and will be removed.

Example One
The Mets suck! They need to trade Smith and get somebody like Jones.
This comment is off-topic and will be removed. It has nothing to do with any specific game. But here's an acceptable alternative:

Example Two
The Mets suck! Smith made three errors in this game, and hit into a double play, and the Mets blew a 5-0 lead. They need to get rid of Smith and get somebody like Jones.
See the difference? Here you're getting the same point across, but it's in the proper context. We wouldn't consider this message to be off-topic, and we would let it remain.

We do appreciate anybody who takes the time to share their thoughts on our site, and we hate to remove anybody's postings. But if we didn't take steps to ensure that only on-topic messages were retained, The Ultimate Mets Database would become a confusing jumble of unrelated comments, and would thus be less enjoyable to visitors like you.
